The project at Mehlville R-IX School District is a multi-phased project covering several facilities: a central administration building, an interior and exterior demolition package including assessment of existing infrastructure, and addition and renovation to several facilities.
The central administration building is a 2 story, 50,000 square feet facility adjacent to Mehlville High School campus. This building will have offices located around the exterior for access to views and natural light. Each private office and conference room will be situated along the perimeter of the building with full-height side light, allowing lots of natural light to filter into the building.
Phase 1 includes construction of the lobby, new interior stairs, a kitchen and cafeteria upgrade, and several offices for IT and the business staff. There will be a central computer space, dedicated business office, human resources space, mail room, and even a print shop, along with general interior updates to elevators and toilet rooms.
Phase 2 includes the Board of Education Room fit with a flexible folding partition. This space can also function as a staff training room. Additionally, there will be a welcome center, modern administration staff offices, and numerous conference rooms.
Augustana College was in need of a central location to welcome students, serve as a center for financial aid assimilation, and help both staff and students in the admissions process. At about 24,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art student center will act as a gateway to everything students may need, from textbooks, meeting centers and recruiting help.
The district spent four years working with the community and staff to plan for an expansion and renovation with the goal of meeting the needs of growing enrollment and providing future-focused learning opportunities to students.
This $33 million project, which received strong community support with a 70% approval rate, continues to move forward on schedule. The new facility will be located on the Junior/Senior High School campus, creating a more unified educational environment for the district.
