As part of the $11.6-million first phase of a multi-phase master plan, two exterior spaces were updated and 45,000 s.f. of interior renovations were made to facilitate critical thinking and allow experiential learning through real-world problem- solving in flexible spaces.
In addition to the classroom improvements, several student support spaces and informal collaboration spaces have been added or renovated to enhance the overall experience of students. The Academic Success Center and Online Learning offices both received major upgrades to improve the approachability and visibility of the programs for students seeking assistance.

Following the success of the Carroll Center for Innovative Learning, how do we expand upon the newly adopted educational paradigm throughout other core program areas, including science, math and nursing program areas?
By utilizing modular partitions, the design team completed a phased renovation of science labs, nursing simulation labs, math classrooms and an art space.
Since the classes, labs, and greenhouse spaces were scattered throughout the campus, there were no central offices, classrooms designed for other disciplines, or collaborative spaces for students. This made sharing ideas, materials, and information difficult.
Utilizing input from students, faculty and the community, the new Carroll Center for Innovative learning was developed as a 21st century learning environment. The re-invented area includes formal and informal educational spaces that were right sized to support varied class sizes.
As the Richland Community College student body grew, so did the college’s need for services to support the varying stages of enrollment, student success and records.
