The Three Crowns Park dining room project, completed in 2024, transformed a formal dining room and bistro into a vibrant space. The design team faced a unique challenge: how to create an exciting, contemporary atmosphere while maintaining excellent acoustics—particularly tricky after removing sound-absorbing elements like carpeting and tablecloths.
The solution came through architectural innovation. Rather than relying on conventional school-style acoustic panels that detracted from the aesthetic, the design team integrated acoustic treatment seamlessly into the architecture itself using striking wall coverings that both look great and sound great. This creative approach maintained the space's acoustic performance while elevating its visual appeal.
How do we maintain excellent acoustics—particularly tricky after removing sound-absorbing elements like carpeting and tablecloths?
Our innovative approach transformed acoustic treatments into stunning design elements. The walls combine form and function: white acoustically transparent textile coverings elegantly conceal sound-dampening panels, while extra-durable wall finishes in blue solid and floral print provide superior impact and abrasion resistance. The result is a space that's both visually striking and acoustically optimized.
- "Destination" dining

Working alongside Clevenger & Associates for kitchen design and 20/10 Engineering for MEP services, the team also made strategic operational improvements to the frontline and backline of the bistro's open kitchen. But perhaps the most striking aspect of the renovation is its bold use of color and graphics—a deliberate departure from the typically neutral palettes found in senior living communities.
The impact on residents has been transformative. These spaces have become more than just dining areas; they're now destinations that entice residents out of their apartments, fostering curiosity and community engagement. For seniors who visit these spaces daily, the vibrant, thoughtfully designed environment adds a special touch to their routine dining experiences.
The project represents a forward-thinking approach to senior living design, aligning with current trends of similar elevated dining experiences. At its core, this renovation demonstrates that senior living spaces can—and should—be both functional and exciting, proving that good design knows no age limit.
Faced with dated environments that were not serving a range of the residents' needs, Evenglow needed direction for creating the best home for their assisted living and independent living residents. Their existing seven-story Lodge building was occupied and would be difficult to renovate without going over budget and disrupting residents.
