Playhouses with Purpose

For a 5th year, BLDD Architects, Inc. has partnered with Macon County CASA for their annual Casas for CASA Playhouse Fundraiser. Casas for CASA is a charity raffle for one of two custom playhouses. Each playhouse is designed, built, and painted by a team of local volunteers. BLDDers have big hearts for helping their communities and truly believe in our mission “Because Life Deserves Design.” The BLDD team enjoys opportunities to use their talents to give back to the community.

Design Charrette

Each year, BLDDers volunteer time to design unique playhouses for the Central Illinois community to vote on. The top two designs are constructed and raffled to support CASA’s mission to advocate for children in need.

This year, the BLDD team switched things up and hosted a Design Charrette in February to brainstorm and sketch playhouse ideas.

The charrette resulted in six creative designs that spark the imagination including Research Submarine, Air Guardian Helicopter, Classic A-Frame Vacation Home, Mars Research Station, The Sorcerer’s Spire, and Princess Belle’s Library.

See gallery at the bottom of this article for all of the renders.

The Votes are in...

Greg Butler’s Research Submarine and Douglas Draeger and Kayla Peck’s Sorcerer’s Spire playhouses received the top votes.

Greg, with the help of his sons Graham and Caius, designed the Research Submarine for kids to explore the depths of their imaginations (personal flotation devices not included).

Serving others is at the core of what we do, so much so that BLDD has had team members, including Greg, involved as CASA advocates and sponsors.

In a recent Herald & Review article, Greg shared, “I’ve got some family connections to CASA. I relished the opportunity to give back and leverage my gift for such a good cause.”

Designed by Douglas Draeger and Kayla Peck, Sorcerer’s Spire invites young wizards and witches to raise their house banner and stand guard over the grounds through the tower. And when they’ve accomplished all of their adventures, they can snuggle up beside the fireplace with their favorite book.

Congratulations to Macon County CASA on another successful Playhouse Raffle! We can't wait to see what designs are brought to life next year!
